HOW DOES TRANSPORT WORK?

We use USDA-regulated ground transport companies who work for other shelters and rescues, not just us. They operate weekly like a bus schedule, traveling a pre-established route with pre-established stops/times south of the Mason-Dixon line, where they pick up dogs from shelters and rescues,  and a pre-established route with pre-established stops/times north of the Mason-Dixon line where they drop dogs off to individual adopters or rescue groups.

how much is the transport fee?

Transport fees are set by the individual companies and range between $140 - $175.  The transport fee is paid directly to the transport company.

CAN the adopter CHOOSE WHICH TRANSPORT to USE?

Unfortunately, not.  While there are a few companies we use, not each company has space on a particular week, and not each of our partners can meet all of the transport pickup locations.

WHY is there a transport fee IF THE DOG is local?

All of our dogs are transported from the south to the Northeast using one of these companies. If the dog is local, it means we have already paid the transport fee, and the fee will need to be reimbursed to Little Pink Shelter.
